Announcement: Appointment of New Managing Directors for Orcades Marine UK and Orcades Marine Asia
Orcades Marine is delighted to announce a new chapter of leadership across its organizations with Alexandra Thomson appointed as the Managing Director of Orcades Marine UK, and Alex Ng will assume the role of Managing Director for Orcades Marine Asia.
Alexandra Thomson brings a wealth of expertise in marine surveying, operational management, and project leadership across the maritime and renewable energy sectors. Beginning her career at sea, Alexandra holds an Officer of the Watch (Unlimited) certification and continued with her education while in employment with Orcades Marine, gaining a master’s degree in marine surveying. With her in-depth knowledge of vessel operations, marine project management, MCA coding requirements, Classification Society rules, and compliance standards such as the ISM Code, Port Marine Safety Code, and relevant local, national, and international regulations combined with her strong project management skills, Alexandra is exceptionally positioned to lead Orcades Marine UK into a new era of growth and innovation.
Alex Ng has been with Orcades Marine since 2017, contributing as a director and mechanical engineer with deep expertise in marine renewable energy and R&D. Alex’s career spans roles in design, prototyping, and project management across diverse environments—from the tropical waters of Southeast Asia to the northern coasts of Scotland. A leader in innovation, he has been integral in developing renewable technologies and managing high-profile projects, such as a tidal energy demonstration in Singapore. Alex’s experience and forward-thinking approach will guide Orcades Marine Asia as it expands its presence in the dynamic maritime and renewable energy markets in the region.
David Thomson, who has served as Managing Director for both organizations, will transition into the overarching role of CEO. Over the past decade, David has been the driving force behind Orcades Marine’s growth and success, steering the company to become a leader in marine consultancy and renewable energy. Under his leadership, the business has developed a strong reputation for excellence, innovation, and reliability. David’s vision and commitment have laid a solid foundation for continued expansion, with an emphasis on adapting to the evolving needs of the maritime and energy sectors. As CEO, David will focus on strategic alignment and developing global opportunities that ensure Orcades Marine remains at the forefront of the industry.
